
Field Set For Las Vegas Showdown

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's golf team is set to participate in the 2011 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, which is hosted by UNLV, starting Monday, Oct. 24 through Wednesday, Oct. 26. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played at the par-72, 6,329-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
The Pirates (40-3), who are ranked No. 47 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, will be joined in the 16-team field by (24) UC Davis, (31) San Diego State, (32) Oklahoma, (41) Pepperdine, (54) Louisville, (58) Colorado State, (59) Idaho, (63) Miami, (67) Long Beach State, (68) Fresno State, (73) UNLV, (80) Missouri, (103) UC Irvine, (104) BYU and (112) Nevada, Reno.
ECU's lineup consists of seniors Amy Otteson and Julia Strandberg, junior Faith Hardison, sophomore Fanny Wolte and true freshman Katie Kirk. In all three events so far this season, both Otteson and Wotle have finished in the Top 20, while Kirk and Strandberg have a pair of Top 20 finishes. Strandberg became the eighth player in school history to earn medalist honors when she first at the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup with a 36-hole score of 145. It marked her first tournament win in just her fifth start.
Otteson took top honors on the Pirate squad at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate with her career-best finish, tie for second, after posting a 54-hole score of 213. The Wilson, N.C. native found the 18th green in two shots and was putting for eagle and a chance to win the individual crown, but settled for a two-put and a share of second place.
Wolte has continued her solid play from her rookie season finishing tied for sixth at the Golfweek Program Challenge and the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup. Four of her eight rounds have been par of better on the young season and she owns a 73.88 stroke average, which ranks third on the team.
Kirk is the lone rookie to start all three events thus far for the Pirates posting a 74.75 stroke average. She has recorded a pair of Top 12 placements, including a career-best ninth place finish in her first collegiate event at the Golfweek Program Challenge with a 54-hole score of 220.
Rounding out the lineup is Hardison, who has competed in all three events this season and 10 in her career. The Jamesville, N.C. native owns a 79.03 career stroke average and finished tied for 41st at the Golfweek Program Challenge with a tournament score of 234.
