
Pirates Fall To No. 24 Knights Sunday Afternoon, 2-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Nicolette Radovcic and Tishia Jewell each netted goals to help No. 24 UCF to a 2-0 win over East Carolina Sunday afternoon at the ECU Soccer Stadium in Conference USA play. With the win the Knights improve to 8-2-4 overall and 3-1-2 in league play, while the Pirates fall to 6-5-1 and 1-4-0.
Radovcic gave UCF a 1-0 lead at the 40-minute mark when she scored off a header inside the box. The goal, her sixth of the season, was assisted by Kristina Trujic. Jewell, the 2010 C-USA Player-of-the-Year, gave the Knights a two-goal cushion in the 63rd minute sending a shot pass ECU keeper Christiane Cordero to the lower left corner for her fifth strike of the season. Kathy Ling and Andrea Rodrigues were both credited with assists on the play.
UCF goalie Aline Reis posted her fifth shutout of the season notching five saves, while Cordero allowed both goals in 90 minutes of work with three saves.
Each team attempted eight shots on the day, and the Knights finished with a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Jewell came off the bench to lead UCF with three shots, while Caty Butler and Chrissy Gratz each had two for ECU.
The Pirates put four shots on goal in the first 45 minutes coming up empty each time. Leah Bagonis (7:48), Butler (9:03), Kimmy Cummings (27:31) and Gratz (43:32) all attempted shots in the first half. Gratz had the best scoring opportunity for ECU when she placed a ball on goal at the 41:54 mark that hit the far right post.
ECU will be back in action next Friday, Oct. 14 when it travels to Tulsa for an 8 p.m. (ET) start. The Pirates will conclude their road trip on Sunday, Oct. 16 when they play SMU at 3 p.m. (ET).
