COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Sophomore high jump specialist Tynita Butts earned All-America status for the second time in her career Friday, finishing fourth in the event at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships on the campus of Texas A&M University. She was also an All-America winner in the outdoor national meet last season.
Butts' mark of 1.84 meters was just .03 short of her school-record and personal best set earlier this season at Christopher Newport. The honor adds to her short but storied ECU career as she won the high jump title at the Conference USA Indoor Championships last month in Houston. Butts is the first two-time All-America performer in program history.
With the indoor season now complete, the Pirates will open the outdoor portion of the schedule at the Wake Forest Open in Winston-Salem, N.C. The event is slated for March 18-19.
