
Wolte Tied For 13th At C-USA Golf Championships

GULF SHORES, Ala. - Freshman Fanny Wolte carded a two-over par 74 during second round action at the 2011 Conference USA Women's Golf Championships and currently sits in a tie for 13th place with a two-day score of 152.
Wolte, who was tied for 25th entering the day, posted a front nine three-under par 33 registering three-straight birdies on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes but on the back nine she struggled with a five-over 41.
Senior Colleen Estes dropped into a tie for 16th after a seven-over 79 for a tournament score of 153. Fellow classmate Amber Littman posted a two-day score of 154 moving into a share of 20th place with a four-over 76. Rounding out the Pirates roster are junior Amy Otteson (156) and redshirt freshman Faith Hardison (166) who are tied for 25th and 44th respectively.
UTEP maintained its lead as the Miners took to the links and posted their second-straight 302 at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club. The team will enter the final round of play with a two-round total of 604 (+28).
The final day will be a close race for the league title and automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament as Tulane sits only three strokes off the lead at 607. Still within striking distance, SMU and Memphis are tied for third as the teams hold 608 marks after the first two days. UCF holds strong at the fifth position at 609 and Tulsa rounds out the top six with a 610 performance during the two rounds.
Leading the individuals, Tulsa's Marita Engzelius posted a one-under 71 to move to 143 (-1) during the event and claimed her spot as the lone golfer under par. She's trailed by UTEP's Teresa Nogues and Tulane's Maribel Lopez Porras, who are both notched at 146 after two days.
Memphis' Marissa Steen carded the low round of the tournament thus far as she tallied a second-round 70. She saw only one bogey on the day, finding a pair of birdies on the opening nine and hit another to end the day on No. 18. Along with her opening-round 77, Steen sits alone in fourth with a two-round total 147.
Final round of play will begin at 8 a.m. CT with a split tee start. The top five teams will begin at the No. 1 tee, with UCF and Memphis starting the action and SMU, Tulane and UTEP trailing. From the No. 10 tee, East Carolina and Tulsa will be first to start and will be followed by Marshall, UAB and Southern Miss. Live stats for the day's competition will be available at www.Golfstat.com.
