GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina senior pitcher Toni Paisley has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Second Team, according to an announcement by the organization Friday. Paisley holds a 3.55 cumulative grade-point average and earned the accolade for the first time in her career.
Paisley is a five-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll (3.0+ GPA), a 2010 C-USA Softball All-Academic Team selection and a top-30 candidate for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. She is a 2010 graduate of East Carolina with a bachelor's degree in social work and has interned as a case manager with Pitt County Schools working with students who were on legal probation and whose goals are to have perfect attendance and graduate from high school. Paisley is currently pursuing a second bachelor's degree.
On the field, Paisley has become one of the most decorated athletes in East Carolina history. A year ago, she was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-America Third Team, becoming the third All-America selection in program history. She also repeated as a Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region Team member, Conference USA Pitcher-of-the-Year and First-Team All-C-USA selection.
The 2011 Preseason Conference USA Pitcher-of-the-Year has had another fine campaign as she is currently 26-10 with a 1.07 ERA. Paisley is a top 25 finalist for the Amateur Softball Association of America's Player-of-the-Year Award as well as the No. 10 overall selection in this year's National Pro Fastpitch senior draft.
Paisley has been even better in C-USA contests, holding a 12-5 record and 0.90 ERA. She struck out a career-high 16 batters in contests against Tulsa and at UTEP while currently owning league career records in wins (112), strikeouts (1,222), innings pitched (1,024) and appearances (173). Additionally, her six career no-hitters are the second most in C-USA history.
On the national stage, Paisley is the NCAA Division I season leader in solo shutouts (14), is seventh in wins (26) and fifth in strikeouts (328). She is also 24th all-time in strikeouts and 27th in wins.
East Carolina wraps up the regular season this weekend at Longwood against the host Lancers and UMBC. The Pirates play Longwood (32-11) at 12:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. Sunday and UMBC (24-21) at approximately 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
