Soccer Travels West For Instate Rivalry Games

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's soccer team will look for its third-straight win of the season when they travel to the western part of the state to square off against Davidson College Friday night at 7 p.m. (ET) inside the Alumni Stadium.
Friday's game will be the third between the two schools with the Pirates holding a 2-0 advantage in the short series. In their last meeting, the Pirates cruised to an 8-1 victory back on Sept. 5, 1998 at Bunting Field in Greenville, N.C.
ECU (2-1) enters the game on a two-game winning streak after dropping the season opener at home to No. 21 South Carolina, 4-0. Since then, the Pirates have outscored their opponents 6-1, which included a 2-0 shutout against instate foe UNC Wilmington.
Caty Butler and Kimmy Cummings each have netted three goals and tallied six points through the first three matches to lead the Pirates. Butler, the reigning Conference USA Offensive Player-of-the-Week, netted her first career multi-goal game on Thursday, Aug. 25 in the Pirates 2-0 shutout over the Seahawks. Cummings recorded the Pirates first hat trick since 2004 scoring three of the Pirates four goals against ODU back on Aug. 21. The senior forward scored in the 41st, 66th and 72nd minute of play, while Butler got the scored the first goal of the afternoon, the equalizer, off a free kick in the 29th minute.
Sophomore keeper Christiane Cordero recorded her third career shutout facing six shots and posting one save against UNCW. Cordero has logged 260 minutes in goal allowing five goals, recording nine saves with a 2-1 ledger.
Davidson (1-1-1) enters the match after a 0-1-1 record last weekend. The Wildcats tied Providence, 2-2, and fell to Florida Gulf Coast, 2-1, during its two home games. Lauren Mihan added to her team-leading goal mark with her third score of the season on Friday and currently ranks among the Southern Conference's all-time leaders in goals, points and shots.
Keeper Jessie Baxa has started all three games allowing four goals and recording five saves in 245 minutes of action.
The Pirates will continue their instate road trip on Sunday when they faceoff against former C-USA foe Charlotte at 4 p.m.
