GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina (4-3) plays the final contest of its season-opening eight-game homestand Monday afternoon when it takes on Hofstra (0-2) at 5:00 p.m. ECU posted a 3-1 mark during the Pirate Classic and went 1-2 last weekend during the Pirate Clash.
During last Friday's action, the Pirates fell to No. 21 Louisville 5-0 before defeating UNCG 2-1. On Saturday, ECU dropped a 5-1 decision to Fordham and Sunday's contest against Hofstra was canceled due to inclement weather.
ECU Against Hofstra
The Pirates took a 3-1 advantage in the series with the Pride last season by winning the two meetings. Prior to 2011, ECU fell to Hofstra 5-1 on May 14, 1994, and won 5-2 on March 7, 1997.
Last season, East Carolina recorded 5-0 and 5-4 triumphs. In game one, Suzanne Riggs and Alex Fieldhouse each collected two hits with Riggs driving in two runs and Fieldhouse one. Game two had the Pirates hold on as Hofstra scored four times in the top of the seventh. Riggs drove in four and hit her first career home run in the contest. Paisley was the winning pitcher in both games.
Lee-ding The Way
After collecting just eight hits and eight walks in her final 29 games of 2011, sophomore Rebecca Lee has righted the ship in the first two weekends of 2012, leading the Pirates with seven hits to go along with six walks, six runs scored and seven stolen bases.
Last season, the Mililani, Hawai'i, product led the Pirates with 12 steals and is already more than halfway to that mark. Lee also tallied two hits in both contests against Canisius to equal her multiple-hit game total from 2011.
Matching 2011 Already
Fieldhouse, now a sophomore, drove in a career-high four runs against Canisius on Feb. 10 and plated two more runs versus Drexel the next day. In all of 2011, Fieldhouse had two multiple-RBI contests. The Garden Grove, Calif., native also has five two-out RBI already this year after registering six a year ago.
Two Homers And A Win
Sophomores Jasmine Robbins and Abby Wynne each hit a home run against Canisius on Feb. 11. Since the start of the 2007 campaign, East Carolina is 35-7 when hitting two or more home runs. ECU has been even better recently, going 17-1 in its last 18 contests with two or more home runs. The lone setback was a 4-3 decision at Houston on April 24, 2010.
