Camels Run Past Lady Pirates, 5-2

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell used four singles wins, three in straight-set fashion, and a doubles sweep to post a 5-2 non-conference women's tennis victory over East Carolina Wednesday afternoon at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
The Camels, who have won four of their last five matches, improved to 5-2 on the year while the Lady Pirates fell to 3-7.
Campbell opened the action by taking all three doubles battles to capture the opening point. Tamara Stanic and Katya Yegoreychenko began pairs play with an 8-3 win over Natalie Collins and Dana Gray at the No. 2 position before Karolina Chernaya and Borislava Nikolova dismissed Danielle Terpko and Yilian Zhang 8-4 at No. 1. In the No. 3 flight, Natasha Afridi and Anair Gomar defeated Renata Bakieva and Abby Richmond 8-6 to complete the sweep.
The Camels wrapped up the triumph in singles play, winning four of six matchups. Gomar handled Gray (6-2, 6-1) at No. 5, Yegoreychenko posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Terpko at No. 4 before Stanic clinched the fourth tally and team victory by outlasting Bakieva 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2
East Carolina's victories came at the No. 3 and No. 6 slots as Zhang defeated Nikolova 6-1, 7-5 and Richmond rolled past Lourdes Ros 6-0, 6-4. Playing at the top of the lineup, Collins opened her match against Chernaya with a 6-2 win in the first set, but followed by dropping 7-5 and 10-3 decisions to suffer the loss.
East Carolina will remain on the road this weekend, facing UNC Asheville at noon Friday before battling Appalachian State in Boone Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
