Pirates Finish In 14th At Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

NEW ORLEANS, La. -Redshirt sophomore Faith Hardison carded a final round 2-under par 70 (33-37) to finish tied for 30th at the 2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship. The three-day event was held at the English Turn Golf and Country Club.
Hardison, who entered final round action tied for 56th, used a 3-under par front nine recording birdies on holes three, five and six and closed out the event with a nine-over 225. Sophomore Fanny Wolte finished the event 12-over par (228/t42), while Katie Kirk (233/t55), Emily Eng (239/t69) and Julia Strandberg (245/t76) rounded out the Pirates squad.
As a team the Pirates (313-308-301=922) finished 14th moving up one spot from Monday's action finishing 24 shots out of 10th place.
"I'm proud of our team for the fight they displayed throughout the event" said head coach Kevin Williams. "We did not play well, but we kept fighting and improved our team score each round."
Duke, who entered today's final round four shots back of first and second round leader USC, used an even-par round on Tuesday to claim the team title. Second-ranked Lindy Duncan led the charge with a 3-under 69, while Courtney Ellenbogen and Laetitia Beck each finished even and Stacey Kim carded a 3-over 75. USC, meanwhile, turned in its highest round with an 8-over 296 and dropped from first to a third place finish behind Colorado.
Individually, Colorado's Alex Stewart fired the lowest round of the day with a 5-under 67 to overtake second round leader, Cassy Isagawa of Oregon, by one stroke. Isagawa entered the day at 8-under, but carded a 4-over 76 today.
The Pirates (55-29) will be back in action on March 9-11 when they participate in the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational, which will be held in Jacksonville, Fla.
