
Pirates Tied For Second At Pinehurst Challenge

Pinehurst, N.C. - The East Carolina women's golf team fired rounds of 289 and 297 during the first day of the Pinehurst Challenge and are currently tied for second place with 18 holes remaining. The two-day, 54-hole event is being held at the Pinehurst No. 6 golf course.
The Pirates are led by freshman Emily Eng, who shot rounds of 67 and 75 for a 2-under 142 and is tied for second place. Her opening round of 67, which consisted of a 33 on the front nine and 34 on the back, set a personal-best round.
Fellow classmate Katie Kirk (73-74) is tied for 13th at 3-over 147, while sophomore Fanny Wolte (71-77) is tied for 23rd at 4-over 148. Rounding out the Pirates squad are seniors Amy Otteson (78-73=151) and Julia Strandberg (81-75=156), who are tied for 37th and 61st.
Playing as an individual, junior Faith Hardison is tied for ninth at 2-over 146, which included a personal-best 67 during the second round.
N.C. State leads the event by 15 strokes after posting a 36-hole score of 571 (286-285) and sits at 5-under. Tied for second with the Pirates is Maryland, who posted scores of 296 and 290. Sitting in fourth is Old Dominion (296-293=589) and holding down a share of fifth are UNC Wilmington (295-298=593) and Penn State (305-288=593).
Final round action is set to begin at 8:45 am on Tuesday.
