Emily Eng Claims Fifth At Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, N.C. - True freshman Emily Eng carded a final round 2-over par 74 earning her a fifth place finish at the 2012 Pinehurst Challenge Tuesday afternoon. The two-day, 54-hole event was being held at the Pinehurst No. 6 golf course.
Eng, who posted a personal-best opening round of 67, was the Pirates (83-34) top finisher and her even-par 216 was also a career-best finish. Fellow classmate Katie Kirk (73-74-77=224) finished tied for 22nd, while sophomore Fanny Wolte (71-77-77=225) took a share of 25th place. Rounding out the Pirates roster were seniors Amy Otteson (78-73-75=226) and Julia Strandberg (81-75-75=231), who finished tied for 28th and 52nd respectively.
Junior Faith Hardison, who participated as an individual, finished tied for 19th with a two-day score of 223 (79-67-77).
N.C. State won the tournament with a team score of 1-over 865 as they beat runner-up Maryland, who shot 18-over. Old Dominion (883) finished one shot behind the Terapins followed by ECU (887). Rounding out the top five teams were UNCW and Penn State which both tied for fifth place with a 28-over 892.
The Pirates will be back in action Mar. 24-25 when they participate in the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic in Wallace, N.C.
