IRVING, Texas - Junior throws specialist Montrell Morrow has been named Conference USA Track and Field Athlete-of-the-Week, according to announcement Tuesday by the league.
It marks the second-straight week in which a Pirate has earned honors from C-USA, as senior Brittany Copeland garnered the accolade April 3 for her then national-best time in the 5,000-meter run.
With a toss of 64.57-meters (211'-10"), Morrow set the program record in the hammer throw at the Florida Relays last weekend. He finished sixth overall and third among collegiate competitors with the NCAA's 12th-best total in the event this year. It is also Conference USA's top hammer performance for 2012. The selection marks Morrow's first career C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Athlete-of-the-Week honor.
UCF freshman Octavious Freeman is this week's female honoree after clocking the world's fastest time in the 100-meter dash. Her performance claimed the No. 7 spot on ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 and she has qualified for the US Olympic Trials in both the 100 and 200 meters.
The Pirates return to action this weekend at the North Carolina Invitational. The meet is scheduled for April 14 at the Irwin Belk Track in Chapel Hill.
