MELBOURNE, Fla. - The East Carolina women's posted an opening day score of 608, 32-over par, and is currently in ninth place after 36-holes at the Knights & Pirates Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event is being played at the par-72, 6,145-yard Suntree Country Club on the Classic Course and is being hosted by the Pirates and UCF.
Following an opening round 8-over par 296, the Pirates were sitting in fourth place, but a second round 24-over par 312 dropped East Carolina (93-34) to a ninth place.
Senior Amy Otteson (71-78) and sophomore Fanny Wolte (74-75) are tied for 14th place with a 5-over 149 heading into final round action Tuesday morning. Redshirt freshman Faith Hardison (72-80-152) is three shots back in a tie for 33rd, while the freshman duo of Emily Eng (79-79=158) and Katie Kirk (83-84=167) are tied for 64th and 79th.
No. 39 Texas Tech leads the 15-team field with a 5-over 581 (287-294) and sits four shots ahead of Co-Host No. 41 UCF (293-292=585). Rounding out the top five are Wisconsin (289-302=591), Chattanooga (298-298=596) and Michigan (298-299=597).
Deborah DeVilla (Texas Tech) leads the event with a 5-under 139 (69-70) and holds a three-stroke advantage over UCF's Carolin Pinegger (73-69=142) and four shots over UCF's Katie Mitchell (70-73=143). Wisconsin's Alexis Nelson (72-72) is fourth at even-par 144, while teammate Kimberly Dinh (71-74) and Purdue's Paula Reto (72-73) share fifth place at 1-over 145.
The third and final round begins Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
