GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina freshman Caitlin Hite was named to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I Women's All-Central Region Second Team, announced Tuesday by the organization.
Hite was the only newcomer listed on the second team and one of two freshmen defenders, along with West Virginia's Buchanan Kadeisha (first team) to be named to one of the three squads.
In just her first collegiate season, Hite was arguably one of the most important pieces to the Pirates' defense. The Stafford, Va., native started all 21 matches and played every minute in 19 of those contests, which included five double-overtime games. Hite served as the team's left backer all season on a defense that has posted six shutouts and held opponents to a 0.85 shooting percentage.
The Stafford, Va., native also received All-Conference USA First Team recognition as a defender and became the first freshman in program history to accomplish the feat. In addition to being named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team, Hite received NCCSIA First Team All-State honors just over one week ago.
East Carolina finished the 2013 season 9-9-3 overall and reached the semifinals of the Conference USA Championship.
