
ECU Hosts Pitt Community College, Louisburg This Weekend

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina softball team concludes its fall season with a pair of doubleheaders against Pitt Community College and Louisburg College Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Pirates and Bulldogs of PCC will square off October 17, at 5 p.m., and ECU will host Louisburg October 18, at 1 p.m.
The game against PCC will feature two seven-inning contests, while the match-up with Louisburg College will be a 10-inning and seven-inning twinbill.
Pitt Community College finished the 2014 campaign with a 25-5 overall record and was ranked in the Top 20 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Bulldogs are currently 0-2 in the fall season after having dropped a pair of games at Campbell University by scores of 5-0 and 3-1, last Wednesday.
Louisburg College is coming off of a 20-21 season in 2014 where the Hurricanes compiled a 14-5 record at home. Coming into the contest at East Carolina, Louisburg is 4-3-1 in the fall season with victories over EC Pride, Pitt County Heartbreakers, Infinity, and the Wilmington Warriors, which are all travel teams.
The Pirates come into the two weekend matches with a 2-0 record in the fall season after having swept USC-Beaufort last week. East Carolina outscored the Sand Sharks 22-1 in the doubleheader as the Pirates defeated USCB 6-1 in game one and 16-0 in game two.
Last weekend, ECU was led by sophomore first baseman Ali Ramirez who blasted a pair of home runs, one in each game, and drove in three runs. In the circle, right-handers Caroline Umphlett and Ashley Cruise turned in solid performances to secure the win in each game.
Fans are encouraged to come out to ECU Softball Stadium and enjoy fall softball doubleheaders free of admission.
