GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina head volleyball coach Julie Torbett announced the signing of Haley Bidgood Wednesday afternoon. Bidgood signed a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period to begin attending classes and working out with the volleyball team in the spring semester.
"We are very fortunate to have attracted a player like Haley to play volleyball at ECU," Torbett said. "She is unique in her ability to be an attacking setter who blocks well and plays defense. We feel she is going to be a major player for our program over the next four years as well as an excellent leader. She possesses work ethic, competitive drive and has been extremely loyal to ECU through the entire recruiting process."
Bidgood is a 6-foot-1 setter who lettered three years at Green Hope High School where she helped the Falcons capture the 2014 Southwest Athletic Conference Championship title. After leading her squad to a 17-5 overall record (12-2 conference), Bidgood earned First Team All-Conference honors and was named team MVP at the conclusion of her senior year.
The Cary, N.C., native finished the 2014 campaign with 374 assists to rank second in the conference, while adding 189 kills, 168 digs, 45 total blocks, 25 service aces and a .221 attack percentage.
As a junior, Bidgood earned the North Carolina Elite Club Team Coaches Award after playing for N.C. Elite under head coach Tristy Bittikofer.
Bidgood will graduate from Green Hope High School in January 2015 and pursue a nursing degree at East Carolina University beginning in the spring semester. During the spring, she will also begin competition with the Pirate volleyball team.
