
2025 Volleyball Season Comes to a Close at Minges Sunday

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina wrapped up its 2025 volleyball season on Sunday afternoon inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum, honoring its lone senior, Carlia Northcross, after taking on Memphis. The Pirates battled throughout the afternoon but ultimately fell 3–1 (25-21, 23-25, 14-25, 23-25) in their final match of the year.
Set One – Memphis 21, East Carolina 25
The Pirates created early pressure from Kathryn Schuele, who delivered two aces during a 7–0 run that put ECU up 10–3. Carlia Northcross fueled the offense with six kills and a .500 hitting percentage in the frame, while Aulie Huff added four kills. Memphis rallied late to close within four, but ECU held firm, taking the opener 25–21 behind a .188 team hitting percentage.
Set Two – Memphis 25, East Carolina 23
ECU carried its momentum into the second set, jumping ahead 16–14 thanks to Allison Butrum, Northcross, and Huff. Violet Hakan also contributed with four kills on .429 hitting in the frame. However, Memphis used a late 5–0 run, taking advantage of a pair of ECU attack errors and a service ace, to edge the Pirates 25–23 and even the match.
Set Three – Memphis 25, East Carolina 14
Memphis seized the momentum entirely in the third, using an early 5–0 surge to put ECU on its heels. Despite three kills from Northcross and a pair from Butrum, the Pirates struggled to gain rhythm against Memphis' best offensive set of the afternoon. ECU hit .100 in the frame while Memphis swung .455 en route to a 25–14 decision.
Set Four – Memphis 25, East Carolina 23
In a tight final set, ECU exchanged blows with the Tigers, highlighted by key kills from Huff and Northcross along with a service ace by Schuele that pushed the Pirates ahead 15–12. Memphis responded with another late push, having strong attacks to regain the lead at 23–22. Huff extended the set with her fourth kill of the frame, but Memphis secured the final two points to close the match, 25–23.
On her Senior Day, Northcross finished with nine kills, a .381 hitting percentage, and a block assist, embodying the consistency and leadership she has brought throughout her career. The four-year middle blocker leaves ECU ranked second all-time in career blocks (370) and as the program's career hitting percentage leader (.328).Â
Huff led the Pirates with 11 kills, while Allison Butrum contributed eight kills and 13 digs. Elle Jackson anchored the defense with a team-high 15 digs, and ECU finished with five total team blocks.
