
Women's Golf Inks One In Early Signing Period

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina Head Women's Golf Coach Kevin Williams has announced that Catherine Ashworth has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf for the Pirates during the 2015-16 season.
"We are very excited to have Catherine join our women's golf program," Williams said. "She is a very dynamic and explosive golfer, who will make an great addition to our team. Catherine has a powerful swing and is a grinder on the course. Her fighting spirit, club head speed and athleticism make me excited about her potential impact on our program. In addition to being a really good golfer, she is an excellent student and will be a great fit for our team."

Four-time North Carolina All-State team selection ... Two-time Tri-9 4A Conference Player-of-the-Year as a freshman and senior ... Posted a 34.8 scoring average in 2014 ... Finished second at the NCHSAA State 4A playoffs with a 6-over 146 (74-72) ... Claimed medalist honors at the 48th Twin States Junior Championships in 2014 with a 1-over 143 (73-70), her first career Carolina Golf Association (CGA) championship ... Won the 34th North and South Junior Championships in 2012 with a 1-over 217 (71-73-73) claiming a five-shot victory, which was play at the Pinehurst Resort.
The Pirates, who are ranked No. 61 by GolfStat, closed the fall season with a 38-20 record with a pair of Top 4 finishes including a team title in their first event of the year at the Minnesota Invitational. ECU will return to action on Feb. 8 when it travels to Orlando, Fla. to participate in the UCF Challenge, which well be played at the Eagle Creek Golf Club.
