East Carolina Finishes Ninth At Jim West Challenge

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - East Carolina closed out the fall portion of its schedule carding a 59-over par 923 claiming ninth place at the Jim West Challenge. The three-day event, which was reduced to two days due to severe weather in the area Tuesday, was being held at the par-72, 6,234-yard Tapatio Spring Golf Club.
Junior Frida Gustafsson Spang was the Pirates' top finisher with a 14-over par 230 (74-78-78) claiming a share of 22nd. Fellow classmate Nicoline Engstroem Skaug ended the event one-stroke behind Spang with a 15-over 231 (74-80-77) finishing tied for 26th.
Senior Katie Kirk concluded the event with an 18-over 234 (75-78-81) for a share of 40th, while the freshmen duo of Lisa Pettersson (19-over, 235) and Victoria Allred (21-over, 237) finished tied for 45th and 49th.
Texas A&M won the tournament with a score 886, followed by Houston (892), Texas Tech (893), Kansas State (900) and Wisconsin (906).
Wad Phaewchimplee (Kent State) claimed individual medalist honors with a 2-under (214) that included rounds of 76, 67 and 71. Finished two strokes back was Maddie Szeryk (Texas A&M) at 216 (even par), while fellow teammate Kimmy Hill (3-over/219) claimed third.
ECU will return to action on Feb. 8 when it travels to Orlando, Fla. to participate in the UCF Challenge, which well be played at the Eagle Creek Golf Club.
