ECU Soccer Travels to George Mason Friday Night

GREENVILLE, N.C. - After picking up its first victory of the season at Western Carolina last Sunday, the East Carolina women's soccer team will look to put together back-to-back wins when it travels to Fairfax, Va., to take on George Mason Friday evening at 7 p.m.
Friday's match will be the Pirates' second of three straight on the road, as they will close the road swing Monday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m., in Florence, S.C., against Francis Marion.
George Mason (0-2) enters Friday after a pair of home losses to Loyola (Md.) and William & Mary last weekend. The Patriots, members of the Atlantic 10 Conference, fell, 1-0 to the Greyhounds, before dropping a 2-0 decision to the Tribe.
East Carolina (1-1) and George Mason last met during the 2000 season in Fairfax, where the Patriots escaped with a 2-0 victory. The Pirates own one win in the all-time series, which came in a 1-0 overtime triumph at home back on October 31, 1997.
HITE OF EXPECTATIONS
Sophomore defender Caitlin Hite was one of 11 players named to the Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Team. In 2013, she became the first freshman in program history to earn all-conference first-team recognition in addition to being listed on the all-freshman team.
GAME-WINNING GEIST
Sophomore midfielder Jenna Geist scored her first-collegiate game-winning goal on a header off a Stephanie Seagrave cross in the 57th minute of ECU's 1-0 road win at Western Carolina on Aug. 24. The goal was Geist's second of her career.
BARON'S BARREN NET
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Saundra Baron recorded her first shutout of the season in East Carolina's 1-0 road win at Western Carolina on Aug. 24. She made three saves in the match, while the shutout was the sixth of her career.
ROSTER MAKEUP
The Pirates return 21 players from last year's squad that posted a 9-9-3 overall record and reached the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament in its final year as a member of the league. East Carolina graduated six players from 2013.
NEWCOMER CROP
ECU welcomed 11 new Pirates for the 2014 season, including one transfer, senior Brianna Spitler, from the University of New Hampshire. Deborah DeGraff, Charlotte Pearsall, Courtney Taybron, Brittany Fary, Danielle Eule, Rachel Renfrow, Taylor Gaunt, Amanda Duke and Allison Kemp comprise the freshman class.
