Pirates Lead Minnesota Invitational After Two Rounds

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - East Carolina carded an opening day score of 581 (5-over) and currently sits in first place at the Minnesota Invitational caring a 19-shot lead into final round action Tuesday. The two-day, 54-hole event is being held at the par-72 Minikahda Club.
The Pirates, who posted an opening round 294 (6-over), shot an event-low 287 (1-under) extending its lead over second-place Purdue (600) by 19 shots. GRU Augusta (601) is currently third followed by Kansas (605), Colorado (606) and Texas (606) to round out the Top-5.
Junior Frida Gustafsson Spang (135) currently sits atop the individual leaderboard with a six-shot lead over Minnesota's Anna Laorr (141). Gustafsson Spang shot an opening round 69 (3-under) before tying her career-low round by shooting a 6-under 66. On the day she played even golf or better, which consisted of seven birdies and an eagle on the par-4 12th-hole during second round action.
Fellow classmate Nicoline Engstroem Skaug is tied for eighth after 36 holes with a 4-over 148. After opening up with a 4-over par 76, Engstroem Skaug bounced back with an even-par 72 and sits four shots out of third place.
Pirate true freshman Lisa Pettersson (150) is tied for 15th after firing a pair of 3-over par rounds of 75. In her first collegiate round, she posted a front nine scored of 39 (4-over) but bounced back with a 1-under 36 to finish with a 75. Her second round featured a pair of birdies in the first three holes followed by three bogeys, a double bogey at the par-5 fourth hole and 12 pars.
Junior Lane Gakeler (151) is tied for 20th after rounds of 77 and 74, while senior Katie Kirk (155) is tied for 39th following scores of 74 and 81.
