GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina women's soccer forward Lana Spitler was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Week and senior goalkeeper Erika Lenns received the league's Goalkeeper-of-the-Week honor on Monday afternoon.
A sophomore, Spitler scored three times in two matches, including a go-ahead goal versus UConn in Thursday night's American Conference opener, before scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory over Temple on Sunday for the Pirates' first league win. She now leads the team with five goals on the year and has scored goals in back-to-back games twice this season and for the first time since netting one at Francis Marion on Sept. 1 and against Davidson Sept. 5.
Filling in for injured starting goalkeeper Saundra Baron, Lenns made a career-best seven saves in the 2-1 overtime loss to UConn, but bounced back to earn her second shutout in the team's last three matches with two saves, helping the Pirates to a 2-0 win over Temple on Sunday. The Raleigh, N.C., native has logged over 298 minutes in goal this season and owns a 0.60 goals against average to go with 14 saves and a .875 save percentage.
East Carolina (7-3-1, 1-1-0 American) will wrap up its four-match home stand when it hosts Cincinnati (7-3-2, 1-1-0 American) on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m., at Johnson Soccer Stadium.
