GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina freshman striker Brittany Fary has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie-of-the-Week in an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.
The accolade is the first of her career and she is the first ECU player to be recognized by the league this season.
Fary scored her first-collegiate goal in Monday's 6-0 road victory at Francis Marion. The Centreville, Va., native has made an immediate impact as she is the Pirates' lone newcomer to start each of the team's five games this season.
Additionally, redshirt junior goalkeeper Saundra Baron and sophomore defender Autumn Berry were named to the American's Honor Roll for their performances last week.
Baron recorded back-to-back shutouts at Francis Marion and against Davidson. The Greensboro, N.C., native now has four-straight shutouts, 10 in her career and has held opponents off the scoreboard for 362-consecutive minutes.
Berry recorded a personal best three points and scored the game-winning goal at Francis Marion while playing stout defensive at left back to preserve two shutouts for ECU. Berry's goal was the first of her career and came on a corner kick she directed perfectly out of the goalkeeper's reach.
East Carolina will head to UNC Greensboro for its next match on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m., before returning home to host nationally-ranked Virginia Tech on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m.
