Pirates Defeat Norfolk State For First Win

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team earned its first win of the season with a dominant 6-1 victory over Norfolk State at the ECU Indoor Center. The Pirates swept the doubles action before taking five of six matches in the singles portion of the competition.
Fredric Lehfeldt led ECU's individual effort with sweeps in both doubles and singles play. In doubles, he teamed with Ross Nigro in the second spot and won by a score of 6-0 over the duo of Alex Killam and Igor Braga. Lehfeldt rounded out his day with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Killam in singles action at the fifth spot.
Tendai Tapfuma and Colin Roller earned ECU its other victory in doubles action as they defeated the team of Pascal Domnik and Daniel Grauel, 6-1, in the first doubles match.
The Pirates' three other wins in singles action all came via straight set decisions with Roller scoring the quickest victory with a 6-0, 6-0 result at the No. 4 position over Terry Hackney. Tapfuma and Damien Brenard also made short work of their opponents as Tapfuma dropped six points to Grauel at the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-2, while Brenard scored a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Igor Braga at No. singles.
ECU secured default victories in both the third doubles and sixth singles positions.
The Pirates will be back in action on Sunday as they host UNC Asheville beginning at 11 a.m.
