Pirates Lead Pinehurst Challenge After 36 Holes

PINEHURST, N.C. - The East Carolina women's golf team carded an opening day score of 570 (6-under) and currently holds a three-shot lead at the Pinehurst Challenge. The two-day, 54-hole event is being held at the par-72, 5,949-yard No. 1 course.
The Pirates, who posted rounds of 287 (1-under) and 283 (5-under), sit three shots ahead of Iowa (573/3-under) heading into final round action Tuesday. Chattanooga (575) and Elon (575) are tied for third, while North Florida (577) rounds out the top five.
Freshman Kate Law (70-69) leads the Pirates with a 5-under 139 and currently is tied for fifth place. Senior Frida Gustafsson Spang (72-70) is tied for 11th with a 2-under 142, while sophomore Lisa Pettersson (72-71) is tied for 14th at 143 (1-under).
Senior Nicoline Engstroem Skaug carded consecutive rounds of 73 and is tied for 33rd at 146 (2-over), while Freshman Catherine Ashworth is tied for 49th after rounds of 73 and 76, for a two-day score of 149 (5-over). Senior Lane Gakeler, who is playing as an individual, posted rounds of 79 and 78 for a scored of 157 (t87th/13-over).
William & Mary's Alessandra Liu, who won the 2015 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate two weeks ago, sits atop the leaderboard with host College of Charleston's Louise Olsson with a score of 136 (8-under).
