
Pirates Drop 3-0 Decision at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI - The East Carolina women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss at Cincinnati in American Athletic Conference action Friday evening at Gettler Stadium.
Senior goalkeeper Saundra Baron made double-digit saves for the second-straight match, stopping 11 Bearcat shot attempts. The Greensboro, N.C., native made a career-high 13 saves at Temple on Oct. 11.
Cincinnati (9-4-4, 4-2-1 AAC) got on the board for the first time in the 31st minute when Vanessa Gilles headed in a long throw-in by Taylor Pavlika. The Bearcats outshot the Pirates, 12-2, in the first half and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kick chances.
Gilles struck again in the 76th minute when she hit home a rebound off a shot that went off the post and landed at her feet to make the score 2-0. Cincinnati put the game away in the 87th minute when Danielle Rotheram received a through pass from Laura Rose before finishing a low shot past Baron and into the back of the net for the third and final goal of the match.
East Carolina (7-8-2, 2-4-1 AAC) was led by senior Stephanie Seagrave and juniors Lana Spitler and Jenna Geist, who registered two shots apiece. The Bearcats outshot the Pirates, 23-6, overall and held an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks on the night.
ECU will return to action next Friday, Oct 23 for Senior Night against Tulsa. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., at Johnson Soccer Stadium.
