GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina redshirt senior goalkeeper Saundra Baron has been named American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper-of-the-Week for the second time this season according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.
Baron bookended the weekly award for the season, as she also received the honor on Aug. 24 following a pair of shutout performances during the first weekend.
The Greensboro, N.C., native made 11 saves during the Pirates' final two regular season matches, including a five-save shutout in her team's 3-0 win over Memphis in the season finale on Sunday. The scoreless outing was her ninth on the campaign, which leads all American Conference goalkeepers. Baron has totaled 84 saves and averaged 4.42 stops per game in 2015, which also leads The American.
Senior forward Kendall Frey also received recognition, as she was named to the weekly honor roll after registering a career-high five points with two goals and one assist in the victory over Memphis. The goals were the 21st and 22nd of Frey's career, moving her past Kelly Gray (1998-2001) for fifth on ECU's all-time goals list.
Seeded eighth, the East Carolina will travel to Dallas, Texas and take on regular-season champion and 11th-ranked Connecticut on Tuesday, Nov. 3 in the first round of the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship.
