GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's soccer team will begin its final road trip of the season with three-straight away matches, beginning with an American Athletic Conference battle at reigning league champion and 18th-ranked UConn on Thursday, Oct. 8. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn.
LAST TIME OUT
East Carolina (7-6-1, 2-2-0 AAC) split its first home weekend of American Athletic Conference matches with a dramatic 1-0 win over UCF on Thursday, before a 2-1 setback against 18th-ranked USF on Sunday.
ALL-TIME VERSUS UCONN
The Pirates and Huskies will meet for just the second time in history, after UConn claimed a 2-1 overtime victory against ECU in its very first American Conference match in 2014. Lana Spitler put East Carolina ahead, 1-0, in the 58t minute of the match before UConn tied it in the 70th minute and scored a golden goal with 41 seconds left in the first overtime period.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
UConn (10-2, 2-1 AAC) is coming off a 1-0 conference win over Temple. Strikers Rachel Hill and Stephanie Ribeiro are tied for first in the conference with five game-winning goals apiece this season. Hill has registered 21 points (9g, 3a) and Ribeiro has 14 (5g, 4a), while they both stand atop the conference leaderboard for most shots per game.
HEROICS & DRAMATICS
East Carolina has won three matches with less than a minute to play or later, including a pair of double overtime victories (Western Carolina & Charlotte) and on a goal with 31 seconds left in regulation (UCF). The Pirates also lost a match on a goal with 27 seconds to go (at SMU).
COUNTING DOWN
East Carolina women's soccer is just three victories shy of 200 in its history. Since the inception of the program in 1994, the Pirates have averaged greater than nine victories per season.
SEASON OF SHUTOUTS - THE SEQUEL?
ECU posted 11 shutouts in 2014, which tied the 2007 team for the most in a single season in school history, and the Pirates have seven in their first 14 games in 2015.
BARON'S BARREN NET
Redshirt senior goalkeeper has recorded seven shutouts in ECU's first 14 matches this season, putting her in a tie for the fourth most in a single season in program history. The Greensboro, N.C., native has blanked opponents in 12 in her last 22 starts dating back to 2014.
FREY FLUSHES UCF
Senior striker Kendall Frey entered the record books in dramatic fashion by scoring the game-winning goal with 31 seconds remaining in regulation to defeat UCF, 1-0, on Oct. 1. The goal was her 20th as a Pirate and moved her career point total to 48 - tied for the fifth most in program history.
HITE OUT OF NOWHERE
Junior defender Caitlin Hite scored her second-career goal at SMU on Sept. 27 - her first tally in exactly 50 games dating back to Sept. 2, 2013 in a 2-1 overtime win against Western Carolina - the fourth game of her collegiate career.
DOUBLE ORDER OF FREY
Kendall Frey scored both goals in ECU's 2-0 win at Houston on Sept. 24 - her second-career multi-goal game.
