GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina Head Women's Golf Coach Kevin Williams has announced that Dorthea Forbrigd, Siranon Shoomee and Grace Yatawara have each signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf for the Pirates during the 2016-17 season.
"We are super excited about the 2016 signing class," Williams said. "Dorthea, Siranon and Gracie have so much golf ability and potential and it'll be exciting working with each of them starting in the Fall of 2016. These young ladies will make a huge impact for our program, both on the golf course and in the classroom."
Dorthea Forbrigd, Oslo, Norway (Wang Toppidrett)
Currently attends Wang Toppidrett, which is the top school for athletes in Norway ... Member of the Norwegian National Team ... 2012 Donald Ross Junior Invitational at Royal Dornoch Champion ... 2013 Norgecup at Tyrifjorden Champion ... 2013 and 2014 Norwegian Junior Team Champion ... 2015 Titleist Tour at Drobak Champion.
Coach Williams' Comments: "Dorthea comes from the same club as current golfer Nico Engstroem Skaug and they share the same golf instructor, Caroline Diethelm. I have a lot of respect for the work she has done with both young ladies. Dorthea is tall, athletic and strong. She possesses a very good putting stroke and has all the tools necessary to make a real solid impact for our program."
Siranon Shoomee, Sanford, North Carolina (Lee County High School)
Two-time NCHSAA 3A State Champion (2013-14) ... Claimed individual tournament titles at the PKB Wolfpack Classic (2013), PKB Tour Championship (2014) and Joe Cheves Invitational (2015) ... Finished third at the Big I National Championship (2014).
Coach Williams' Comments: "We are very happy to have Siranon join our program. Her nickname is Muk, which means pearl in Thai, and her golf swing is as smooth as a pearl! Siranon plays with great consistency due to a very fundamental golf swing, wonderful tempo and great demeanor in competition. She has had great success on the course as evidenced by her playing resume, but is equally as good in the classroom."
Grace Yatawara, Salisbury, North Carolina (Salisbury High School)
Two-time NCHSAA 1A/2A State Champion (2014-15) ... Claimed a pair of NCHSAA 1A/2A West Regional individual titles (2014-15) ... Won the 2014 North Carolina Junior Girls Championship ... Qualified for the 2014 U.S. Junior Girls Championship ... Took fifth place at the Joe Cheves Championship (2015)
Coach Williams' Comments: "Grace comes to us, like several Lady Pirate golfers before her, from PGA Professional Robert Linville's stable of talented young golfers. She has a lot of club head speed, which is huge in our sport. In addition to having a powerful golf swing, her attitude on and off the course stood out to us during the recruiting process. Grace has tremendous amount of potential and we are excited about the impact she will make in our program."
The Pirates (51-7) will return to action on Feb. 7 when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to participate in the UCF Challenge, which will be played at the Eagle Creek Golf Club.
