DALLAS - East Carolina senior Kendall Frey, junior Lana Spitler and freshman Courtney Cash were named All-American Athletic Conference selections for the 2015 season according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.
Frey received a first team nod, while Spitler was tabbed to the second team and Cash was listed among the all-rookie selections, as the Pirates had three different players named to respective all-conference teams for the third-straight year.
A Chester Springs, Pa., native, Frey is just the third player in program history along with Kim Sandhoff (1997-2000) and Meghan McCallion to earn all-conference recognition in four-straight seasons. She was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in 2012, before receiving All-C-USA Third Team honors in 2013 and an All-American Conference Second Team nod in 2014.
Frey leads the Pirates in points (17), assists (5) and is tied for tops on the team in goals scored (6) this season, while her five helpers rank fifth in The American this season. In what has been a historical senior campaign, Frey currently stands fifth in program history in both goals scored (22) and points (53) following a career-high five-point outburst, comprising two goals and one assist, in ECU's 3-0 victory over Memphis in the regular-season finale on Oct. 25. She also has two multi-goal games and four game-winning goals on the year, running her career total to 13. The Preseason All-American Athletic Conference pick also tied the single-game school record with three assists in East Carolina's 3-0 road win at UNC Greensboro on Sept. 6.
Spitler ranks second on the club in points (16) and assists (4) behind Frey, while leading the Pirates with 64 shots taken and sitting in a tie with Frey for the most goals on the team with six. With two game-winning goals under her belt in 2015, she has three different performances in which she was responsible for scoring or assisting on multiple goals. The Montoursville, Pa., native notched three tallied three points with one goal and on assist in the 2-0 season-opening win over George Mason, before recording her second-career two-goal game with four points in the 3-0 win at UNC Greensboro. Spitler's final three-point match of the season came in the thrilling, 3-2 double overtime win at Charlotte, where she compiled one goal, one assist and career-highs in shots (12) and shots on goal (8).
Cash has appeared in every game for the Pirates during her rookie campaign and started each of the final 10 regular season games while logging over 1,000 minutes overall. The Cary, N.C., native netted her first-career score on a golden goal in the 108th minute of ECU's 1-0 double overtime win over Western Carolina on Sept. 11, before getting off a season-high three shot attempts in the 3-2 double overtime triumph at Charlotte two days later. Cash was named American Conference Rookie-of-the-Week for her performances.
Seeded eighth, East Carolina will travel to Dallas, Texas and take on regular-season champion and 11th-ranked Connecticut on Tuesday, Nov. 3 in the first round of the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
