Frida Gustafsson Spang Claims Fifth At UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. - East Carolina junior Frida Gustafsson Spang claimed her second top five finish of the season (fifth career) following a 1-over par 73 Tuesday at the 2015 UCF Challenge. The three-day, 54-hole event was being held at the Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Spang, who stood atop the leaderboard all three days, finished fifth with a three-day score of 210 (6-under) her second-lowest total of the season. The Kinna, Sweden native ranked among the tournament leaders in par 4's (t2nd/3.87), total pars (fourth/41), total birdies (t5th/10), par 3's (t5th/2,92) and par 5's (t7th/4.92). Spang finished three shots behind co-individual champions Lauren Diaz-Yi (Virginia) and Jennifer Hahn (Vanderbilt) who both posted final scores of 207 (9-under).
Senior Katie Kirk posted a season-low 54-hole score of 218 (2-over) claiming a share of 26th place after a final round 74, which included an even par 35 on the front nine. Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (228) finished tied for 69th, while Lane Gakeler (231) and Lisa Pettersson (232) took a share of 81st and 85th.
Seventeenth-ranked Virginia (850) finished one shot ahead of No. 41 Tulane (851) taking home the team title. The Cavaliers posted a final round of 293 holding off the late charge from the Green Wave (291). Host UCF (858) took third followed by Vanderbilt (859) in fourth, while Iowa State and Wisconsin both took fifth with a score of 870.
The Pirates (46-29) will return to action on March 2nd when they travel south to Coral Gables, Fla. to participate in the Hurricane Invitational.
