FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - East Carolina junior Avion Jones turned in the best postseason performance of his collegiate career at the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's & Women's Track and Field Indoor Championships Saturday. His Top 10 finish garnered him First Team All-America accolades.
"We are extremely proud of Avion Jones and his representation of East Carolina University on the national level," Head coach Curt Kraft said. "To be able to compete on this stage and become a First Team All-American is a great accomplishment. I know Avion is also very appreciative and humbled, at the same time, to be an All-American."
Jones earned All-America status after finishing in a seventh-place tie along with Kyle Landon of Southern Illinois. The Virginia Beach, Va., native recorded a clearance of 2.20-meters (7' 2.5"). He was just 3.5-inches shy of first place.
"The one thing that makes Avion such a great competitor is that he is never satisfied with his accomplishments," Kraft said. "He is always looking to do something better and make improvements. He will use this excellent performance to propel him into the outdoor season."
Jones will lead the Pirates into the outdoor season beginning Friday, March 20 at the 49er Classic hosted by Charlotte. The Classic is a two-day event that will conclude on Saturday, March 21.
