CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team snapped a five-match losing streak Saturday with a 4-2 win over College of Charleston at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
The Pirates claimed the doubles point and three singles matches to improve to 10-10 overall this season, while the Cougars fell to 11-7.
"It would have been easy for our guys to lay down today with our hard fought loss yesterday," ECU Head Coach Shawn Heinchon. "Great work by them for being ready to go and play well against a good team today."
ECU suffered a 4-3 loss to Charlotte late Friday night at the Charlotte Indoor Tennis Club.
In doubles play, Tendai Tapfuma and Patriek Wolterbeek claimed a 6-4 win over Alon Faiman and Brice Allanic at the No.1 position before Colin Roller and Kasey Countee took down Vasily Kichigin and Charlie Ghriskey on court two to secure a 1-0 lead.
Roller and Countee then posted straight set singles victories as did senior Nicolas Soriano to give the Pirates their first win since March 4. Roller defeated Kichigin at the No. 4 spot 7-6 (4), 6-2 and Countee won on the No. 5 line 6-3, 7-6 (3) over Zack Lewis. Soriano made quick work of Allanic on court one 6-3, 6-0.
