
Pirates Remain 10 After Day Two Of NCAA Regional

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - The East Carolina men's golf team remains in 10th-place at 23-over-par 599 (306-293) through two rounds at the NCAA Noblesville Regional at the Sagamore Golf Club.
The Pirates trimmed their first round score by 13 strokes Friday, shooting 5-over-par 293, which was tied for the fourth-lowest round of the day. ECU fell to 14 strokes behind UNLV for the final of five advancing spots to the NCAA Championship finals, May 29 - June 3, in Bradenton, Fla.
SMU leads the field with a two-day score of 3-under-par 573 (285-288). Colorado is in second-place at 1-over-par 577 (277-300) followed by Illinois at 3-over-par 579 (285-294) in third-place. UCLA holds the No. 4 position at 6-over-par 582 (293-289) with the aforementioned Runnin' Rebels rounding out the top-5 at 9-over-par 585 (295-290).
Junior Wes Conover and freshman Tim Conover led the Pirates with each shooting par 72 on the 7,173-yard course Friday. The younger Conover is tied for 17th at 2-over-par, while his elder brother sits tied for 21st at 3-over-par. Each brother posted an eagle with Wes making shooting a three on the par-5 No. 3 hole and Tim posting a three on par-5 seventh hole.
Redshirt freshman Jackson Spires carded a 2-over-par 74 to move into 35th at 6-over-par 150 (76-74), while junior Al Dickens improved by strokes from Thursday with a 3-over-par 75 and is tied for 57th at 12-over-par 156 (81-75). Junior George Kilgore also posted a lower second round total, bettering his score by three strokes. He is tied for 65th at 17-over-par 161 (82-79).
UCLA's Jonathan Garrick holds a one-stroke lead over Colorado's David Oraee for medalist honors. Garrick is 4-under-par through 36 holes, while Oraee is 3-under-par. Six additional players are also under-par and within six strokes of the lead.
East Carolina is slated to tee off with Virginia Tech and New Mexico State for the final round of the NCAA Noblesville Regional on Saturday, beginning at 7:55 a.m. from the 10th tee.
