GREENVILLE, N.C.- Entering his 17th season at the helm of the East Carolina women's soccer program, head coach Rob Donnenwirth announced the team's schedule for the 2015 season Wednesday afternoon.
"We are excited for our second year in the American Athletic Conference," Donnenwirth said. "Our main goal is to do well in the league and try to win a championship. Our non-conference schedule will prepare us for that and we're really looking forward to it."
The Pirates will play their first two matches of the season at home with the opener scheduled for 7 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 21 at Johnson Soccer Stadium against George Mason. Two days later, ECU will host Loyola University Chicago at 1 p.m.
East Carolina will then embark on a four-match road trip, beginning at William & Mary on Aug. 28 and George Washington on Aug. 30 and ending at James Madison on Sept. 4 and UNC Greensboro on Sept. 6. The Pirates will return home to host three of its final four non-conference contests, beginning with Western Carolina on Friday, Sept. 11, prior to an away game at Charlotte two days later. ECU will host UNC Wilmington on Thursday, Sept. 17 and close out the non-league slate Sunday, Sept. 20 against Old Dominion.
Coming off a semifinal appearance in the American Championship in its first year of membership, East Carolina's second campaign in the league will kick off with a pair of road matches at Houston and SMU on Sept. 24 and 27, respectively.
The month of October will commence with three-straight matches against the other three teams who reached the semifinals of the conference tournament in 2014, beginning with home matches versus UCF and USF on Thursday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 4 at Johnson Stadium, before traveling to Storrs, Conn., on Thursday, Oct. 8 for a matchup against Connecticut, the reigning champions. ECU will close out its road schedule at Temple and Cincinnati, before returning home for its final regular season games against Tulsa and Memphis on Oct. 23 and 25.
The 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship will be hosted by SMU in Dallas, Texas during the first week of November.
The Pirates are coming off a 2014 campaign that produced a 12-8-1 overall record and 4-5 mark in conference play, including a trio of all-conference second team selections in defender Kelley Johnson and goalkeeper Erika Lenns who were lost to graduation, as well and rising senior forward Kendall Frey. East Carolina returns 20 players, including all but three starters from last year's club, as well as 10 newcomers.
Tickets will go on sale Monday, Aug. 3 and can be purchased online or by calling the ECU Athletics Ticket Office at 800-DIAL-ECU. Single-game admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under, $2 per person for groups of 20 or more and $1 per person for groups of 50 or more.
