GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's soccer team will close its first American Athletic Conference road trip of the 2015 season at SMU on Sunday, Sept. 27. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m., at Westcott Field.
LAST TIME OUT
Senior forward Kendall Frey scored twice in her second-career multi-goal performance as East Carolina (6-4-1, 1-0-0 AAC) defeated Houston, 2-0, in its conference opener Thursday night. Senior goalkeeper Saundra Baron notched her league-leading sixth shutout of the season, while junior defender Autumn Berry and sophomore striker Courtney Taybron notched their first assists of the year, respectively.
ALL-TIME VERSUS SMU
The Pirates and Mustangs are tied, 4-4-2, in the all-time series, while ECU is unbeaten in its last three meetings with SMU, comprising a 2-0-1 mark during that span. Last season, East Carolina earned a 2-0 victory on Senior Day in Greenville behind goals by Frey and Lana Spitler.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
SMU (3-4-3, 0-0-1 AAC) enters Sunday's match following a 2-2 draw against Cincinnati in its American Conference opener on Thursday evening. Vanessa Valadez leads the Mustangs in points (14), goals (5), assists (4) and shots on goal (12) so far this season, while Paige Jacobs ranks second with 11 points, four goals and three assists.
COUNTING DOWN
East Carolina women's soccer is just four victories shy of 200 in its history. Since the inception of the program in 1994, the Pirates have averaged greater than nine victories per season.
SEASON OF SHUTOUTS - THE SEQUEL?
ECU posted 11 shutouts in 2014, which tied the 2007 team for the most in a single season in school history, and the Pirates have six in their first 11 games in 2015.
SPITLER, BARON EARN WEEKLY HONORABLE MENTIONS
Lana Spitler and Saundra Baron were named to the American Athletic Conference's weekly honor roll on Monday, Sept. 21. Spitler netted the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute of Sunday's 1-0 win over Old Dominion, while Baron made five saves in her fifth shutout of the year.
CASH REGISTERS AAC ROOKIE HONOR
Freshman forward Courtney Cash was named American Athletic Conference Rookie-of-the-Week after scoring her first collegiate goal in game-winning fashion, netting the lone score in the 107th minute of the Pirates' 1-0 double overtime victory over Western Carolina on Sept. 11.
SEAGRAVE SEALS IT
Fifth-year senior Stephanie Seagrave scored a golden goal in the 110th minute of a 3-2 double overtime win at Charlotte on Sept. 13. The score was Seagrave's second of the season and eighth of her career, yet just her first game-winning strike in her 57th-collegiate match.
DOUBLE OT HISTORY
East Carolina won back-to-back double overtime games against Western Carolina and Charlotte on Sept. 11 and 13, marking the first time the Pirates accomplished the feat since Oct. 22 and 24 at Cincinnati and Louisville in 2004. The last time ECU won two double overtime matches in a season was 2008.
BARON'S BARREN NET
Redshirt senior goalkeeper has recorded five shutouts in ECU's first 10 matches this season. The Greensboro, N.C., native has blanked opponents in 10 in her last 16 starts dating back to 2014.
AAC GOALKEEPER-OF-THE-WEEK
Redshirt senior Saundra Baron was named the first American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper-of-the-Week for the 2015 season on Aug. 24 after posting back-to-back shutouts against George Mason and Loyola-Chicago. She made six saves across 200 scoreless minutes to help the Pirates to a 1-0-1 record.
