GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's soccer team will begin the third match of a four-game road spree when it travels to Harrisonburg, Va., to face James Madison on Friday, Sept. 4. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., at University Park.
LAST TIME OUT
ECU suffered its second straight road loss in a 3-0 decision at George Washington. The Pirates surrendered two first-half goals and a penalty kick late in the second half, despite outshooting the Colonials, 9-6, overall on the day.
ALL-TIME VERSUS JAMES MADISON
The Pirates and Dukes will meet for the seventh time in history, but for the first time since the 2000 campaign when ECU earned a 4-1 victory in Greenville. The last time the two clubs met in Harrisonburg was in 1995, East Carolina's second year as a program.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
James Madison is coming off a 2-0 road victory at VCU last Sunday and enters Friday's match with a 2-2 overall record on the season. The Dukes are led by striker Allie Bunner's four goals and one assist, Ashley Herndon's two goals and three assists and Alyssa Zurlo's two scores. As a team, JMU averages 12.8 shots per game and is putting nearly half of its attempts on goal (.490). The Dukes are minus 11 (13-24) in the corner kicks category through their first four contests.
TOUGH STRETCH
East Carolina is going through what might be the most rigorous portion of its 2015 schedule, a stretch of four-straight non-conference road matches. In all, five of six games will be on the road during the tough slate.
AAC GOALKEEPER-OF-THE-WEEK
Redshirt senior Saundra Baron was named the first American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper-of-the-Week for the 2015 season on Aug. 24 after posting back-to-back shutouts against George Mason and Loyola-Chicago. She made six saves across 200 scoreless minutes to help the Pirates to a 1-0-1 record.
TAKING QUALITY SHOTS
ECU has been extremely efficient with its shooting through its first four matches this season, putting 29 of 49 (.592) shots on goal. Senior Kendall Frey has put eight of her 10 attempts on net, while junior Lana Spitler is 10 for 13, including a 5-for-5 performance against Loyola-Chicago on Aug. 23.
AN UNFORTUNATE DOZEN
East Carolina had 12 of its shots saved by Loyola-Chicago goalkeeper Maddie Ford on Aug. 23, marking the first time an opposing goalkeeper has made 12 saves against the Pirate offense since Francis Marion during the 2005 season.
FRESHMEN FITTING IN
Three Pirate freshmen, defender Lindsey Tornabene, forward Courtney Cash and defender Madeleine Watson have seen significant minutes early on this season. Tornabene has started and played every minute in each match thus far, while Cash and Watson have played big minutes as substitutes.
COUNTING DOWN
East Carolina women's soccer begins the 2015 season just nine victories shy of 200 in its history. Since the inception of the program in 1994, the Pirates have averaged greater than nine victories per season.
