BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The East Carolina men's and women's cross country teams took on a star-studded field Saturday at the 2016 Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. The men placed 33rd out of 38 teams while the women took 36th out of 45 squads.
Â
"We saw nice improvements on both the men's and women's sides," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "It was the first time our freshman men and women made the jump to the 6K and 8K respectively, and I thought most of them responded pretty well. This meet is highly competitive and we always look forward to coming up here and racing against nationally-ranked teams. We are ready to get back to work and turn our focus to the next two weeks of solid training."
Â
Jorge Montes was the top finisher for the men, crossing the finish line in 25:05 to end up 130th. Nick Ciaccia was close behind, capturing 148th place in a time of 25:11.
Â
On the women's side, Grace Sullivan ended up inside the top 100 runners, finishing 96th in a time of 21:19. She has been the women's top runner in all four events this season. Victoria Cooke also continued her strong campaign, taking 135th place and completing the race in a time of 21:37.
Â
ECU will tune up for the American Athletic Conference Championships one final time Friday, Oct. 14, taking part in the Vert Invitational hosted by High Point University.
