Â
"Both teams are very excited to compete in this weekend's AAC Cross Country Championships," Program Director and Head Coach Curt Kraft said. "When we started this cross country season, both teams had some great goals. One of their top two goals included improving on last year's finishes. As a coaching staff, we feel both teams can achieve that goal as they have prepared themselves tremendously throughout the past couple months. Another one of both teams' goals was to have multiple all-conference performers on both the men's and women's sides.
Â
We feel if they compete this weekend like they have been practicing the last couple weeks we will be in great shape. As I have stated all season long, the energy and confidence are both very high at this point in the season. We just hope that that parlays into results."
Â
On the men's side, Jorge Montes will make his bid for a third-straight all-conference nod as he finished 14th last year at Lake Kristi and 10th in 2014. As for the women, Caroline Reiser seeks her second consecutive all-conference medal after taking 15th place in last season's meet. Another female runner to watch is sophomore Grace Sullivan who has been the top East Carolina finisher in every meet this campaign and won the ECU Pirate Invitational earlier this season.
Â
The Pirate women are facing some stiff competition as the women's championship meet will feature five teams ranked in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National and Regional rankings. In the men's meet, four teams come in to The American Championship nationally and regionally ranked by the USTFCCCA.
Â
In last year's conference meet, the women placed fourth while the men ended up in seventh.
