ALL-TIME VERSUS UCONN
East Carolina (5-11-1, 1-6-1 AAC) will meet the Huskies for the fourth time overall and is winless in the previous three matchups. The clubs met twice in 2015, which resulted in a 3-0 UConn win in Storrs, Conn., during the regular season and a 3-1 Huskies victory in the first round of the conference tournament in Dallas.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
UConn (15-2-1, 7-0-1 AAC) enters Sunday's match with 10 wins in its last 11 contests and has not lost since a 3-0 defeat at top-ranked Florida State on Sept. 8. The Huskies are led by Stephanie Ribeiro who has 45 points on 17 goals and 11 assists - all of which rank first in the American Conference this season. Striker Rachel Hill has 31 points on 13 goals and five assists, while goalkeeper Emily Armstrong has 79 saves and nine shutouts to complement a 0.71 goals against average.
LOTS OF SHOTS
Through 79-career games, Spitler's 193 shots stand No. 3 on the school's all-time charts and with seven more, she can become just the third Pirate to eclipse 200. Her 76 attempts in 18 matches this season are the second-most in a single season behind only Meghan McCallion's (2002-05) 83 in 19 contests in 2003. Spitler's average of 4.22 per game is also second only to McCallion's 4.37 mark in 2003.
SPITLER CLIMBING ALL-TIME SCORING LISTS
Spitler's game-winning goal against Temple on Oct. 27 was the 22nd of her career, moving her into a tie for fifth place with Kendall Frey (2012-15) on ECU's all-time list. The Montoursville, Pa., native's 57-career points also rank fifth in program history.
EXTRA TIME
ECU played three-consecutive overtime matches in October which stands as the longest streak in program history. The Pirates tied Houston, 1-1, on Oct. 16 before dropping a 2-1 overtime decision at USF on Oct. 20 and a 3-2 double-overtime contest at UCF on Oct. 23.
FIRING THE CANNONS
ECU registered season highs in total shots (26) and shots on goal (17) in a 2-1 league win over Temple on Oct. 27. It marked the second time in four games the Pirates tallied at least 25 shots after putting up 25 against Houston on Oct. 16.
THE LONGEST HIATUS
The Pirates went 12 days (Sept. 18-Sept. 30) between home games against UNC Greensboro and Cincinnati, which is the second-longest span of time between games in the program's 22-year history. The previous long was 17 days during the 1999 campaign due to the effects of Hurricane Floyd.Â
1. 17 days (Sept. 12-Sept. 29, 1999)
2. 12 days (Sept. 18-Sept. 30, 2016)
3. 11 days (August 27-Sept. 7, 2008)
4. 10 days (Oct. 3-13, 2002)
SPITLER STRIKES TWICE, TWICE
Senior striker Lana Spitler has scored two goals in the same contest on two occasions thus far in 2016. She accomplished the feat in a career-high five-point effort against Charlotte (9/11), as well as in a 4-0 rout of Western Carolina (8/28). She now has four-career multi-goal efforts as she also scored twice at UNC Greensboro (9/6/15) and at home against Temple (9/28/14).
