ECU Claims Third Title Of Season At River Landing

WALLACE, N.C. - No. 30 East Carolina shot a tournament-best one-under par 287 in the final round to claim the team championship at the River Landing Classic Sunday afternoon.
The win was the third of the season for the Pirates (116-28-2) and the 26th in program history. ECU, who entered the final round in third place, got solid performances from Friday Gustafson Spang (69), Lisa Pettersson (70), Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (72) and Catherine Ashworth (76) all recording top 15 finishes.
"I'm very happy and proud of our team for digging deep with a great final round," said ECU Head Coach Kevin Williams. "We have done a great job this year of finishing with a good final round all spring. It shows the fight, talent and character of this group."
Spang (75-79-69) and Pettersson (73-80-70) both finished tied for fifth with a 54-hole score of 223. For Spang, it was her sixth top 5 finish, eighth top 10 and ninth top 20 in 10 events. In 30 rounds, Spang has shot 73 or better 21 times and has carded rounds of sub-70 on eight occasions. Pettersson posted her fourth top 10 finish of the season and third top 5 placement.
Ashworth (76-76-76) and Skaug (78-78-72) took a share of 14th place with scores of 228, while Kate Law (74-81-76=231) rounded out the team with a share of 27th place. Playing as an individual, Lane Gakeler (90-82-77=249) tied for 67th following a season-low round of 77 during third round action.

ECU will be back in action on April 17 when they travel to Palm Coast, Fla. to participate in the American Athletic Conference Championships, which will run through April. 19.
