CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The East Carolina women's golf team was one of 25 teams recognized Wednesday by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) for having a collective GPA of 3.768, which ranked 10th nationally.
This is the fifth time in program history that the Pirates have garnered a Top-25 ranking following the 2007-08 (21st/3.531), 2010-11 (18th/3.658), 2013-14 (25th/3.635) and 2014-15 (14th/3.66) seasons. The Pirates are the lone team from the American Athletic Conference ranked among the Top-25 programs this academic year.
"I'm very proud of our team for this wonderful accomplishment," head coach Kevin Williams said. "We finished the year with our highest national ranking academically (No. 10) and athletically (No. 29). This shows a tremendous commitment to the expectations we have for our program, both in the classroom and on the golf course."
The Lindenwood University women's golf team has been honored as the recipient of the 2015-16 WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award. The award recognizes the women's collegiate golf program with the highest collective average team GPA, which includes all of the team's student-athletes for the 2015-16 academic year. Lindenwood's 10-member team had an average GPA of 3.901.
Earlier this month senior Nicoline Engstroem Skaug, sophomore Lisa Pettersson along with freshmen Catherine Ashworth and Kate Law were named 2015-16 NCAA Division I All-America Scholars by the WGCA.
The WGCA, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
