Three Pirates Chosen To American Conference Weekly Honor Roll
August 29, 2016 | Soccer
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Senior forward Lana Spitler, sophomore striker Courtney Cash and freshman defender Megan Conte have been chosen to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.
Spitler scored her second and third goals of the season in the Pirates' 4-0 road win at Western Carolina on Sunday afternoon, notching her third-career multi-goal game. The Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Team selection's three scores place her in a tie for the second most in the league through the first two weeks of the season.
Cash played an integral part in the Pirates' offense in both matches last week, scoring the first goal of Friday's contest at 18th-ranked Virginia Tech in the sixth minute of action. The 2015 American Conference All-Rookie Team choice followed up that performance with a pair of assists - the first of her career - in ECU's shutout of the Catamounts on Sunday.
Conte scored her first-collegiate goal and helped the Pirate defense post its first shutout of the season in Cullowhee Sunday afternoon. The Vaughan, Ontario native also became the first foreign player in program history to score a goal.
East Carolina (2-2) returns home this Friday, Sept. 2 to host James Madison (0-4). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., at Johnson Stadium.
