Men’s Tennis Blanks North Carolina Central in Season Opener

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina defeated North Carolina Central, 7-0, in Friday afternoon's season opener at the ECU Indoor Tennis Facility. The Pirates return to the courts Sunday to host Presbyterian at 11 a.m.

The Pirates started things off on the right foot sweeping doubles action to win the point. James Ling and Frederic Lehfeldt earned a 6-1 win while Ronny Georgi and Will Bissett teamed up for a 6-2 win Freddie McGeehan and Kasey Countee secured the point with a 7-6 (6) win over NCCU's top duo.
In singles action, the Pirates got off to a strong start with five players winning their first set. Despite dropping the opener 6-3 to the Eagle's No. 1 player Gabriel Cucalon, McGeehan won his next two sets 6-3 and 6-2, respectively. Lehfedlt started his senior campaign off right with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 4 singles spot while Ling and Countee earned two-set wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 spot.
Vlad Anghel defeated Kontopoulos 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot while Georgi earned a 6-2, 6-3 win as the No. 3 singles player for ECU.
The shutout marks the second-straight year the Pirates open the spring season with a win. The Purple and Gold will host Presbyterian (0-0) at 11 a.m. at the ECU Indoor Tennis Facility on Sunday.
