Men's Tennis Edges Presbyterian to Start the Season 2-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina defeated Presbyterian 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the ECU Indoor Tennis Facility to improve to start the season 2-0 for the second consecutive year.

It came down to the wire for the Purple and Gold as senior Frederic Lehfeldt secured the 4-3 Pirate's win with a three-set win over Alejandro Bejar at No. 4 singles.

"What a great job by our lone senior today Fredric Lehfeldt," head coach Shawn Heinchon said." "We are fortunate to have indoor courts so we never miss a home match, but we only have three of them so at times that can put a lot of extra pressure on your No. 4, 5 and 6 players. That was the case today. "Fredric playing No. 4 today did an awesome job of hanging in there and gutting out the 'W' for us. I'm very proud of the guy." Â

East Carolina won the doubles point with the Pirates No. 2 team Vlad Anghel and Lehfeldt and No. 3 duo Ronny Georgi and Will Bissett earning wins. Anghel and Lehfeldt defeated Presbyterian's Diego Manzanas and Jamie Lopez, 6-3, while Georgi and Bissett earned a 6-4 win over Brandon Mills and Alejandro Bejar. Freddie McGeehan and Kasey Countee fell to PC's top pair, Ben Kelly and Joel Roberts, 6-3.

In single's action, East Carolina's McGeehan and Georgi earned wins and No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Vlad Angel fell 6-4, 6-4, to Brandon Mills making the Match 3-1 in favor of ECU at the court transition.

Countee and Bissett both lost their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Presbyterian's Kelly defeated Countee in a three-set match, all of which were decided by a 6-3 margin, while Bisset fell in consecutive sets that both went to tiebreakers, 7-6(4), 7-6(4).

With the match tied 3-all, Lehfeldt rallied for the win at No. 4 singles. After dropping the first set, 6-1, to Alejandro Bejar, he won the next two sets 6-2 and 6-4 to earn the win and secure East Carolina's second dual match win of the season, 4-3.
