Men’s Tennis Improves to 5-0 with 5-2 Win over UNC Asheville

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina improved to 5-0 Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win over UNC Asheville. It marks the Pirates' best start under head coach Shawn Heinchon.

"The boys worked hard today," Heinchon said. "We played a little tentative in doubles but once we got through it gave us a good push for singles. I would like to congratulate Kasey (Countee) for his win which clinched the match for us. He has been working hard and it is starting to pay off."

The Pirates won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 while Freddie McGeehan and Kasey Countee fell to Henry Patten and Josh Swindler 6-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot.

Ronny Georgi and Will Bissett improved to 5-0 in doubles action this season with a 7-5 win while Vlad Anghel and Fredric Lehfeldt earned a 6-2 win in the No. 2 slot.

The Pirates lost at No. 1 and No. 2 singles but Anghel and Lehfeldt both won their matches in straight sets of 6-2 at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead. Countee sealed the victory for ECU with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Reid Dillon at the No. 5 spot while a 6-2, 6-4 win for Bissett at No. 6 singles give the Purple and Gold a 5-2 victory.

East Carolina has a week to prepare before heading to Annapolis, Md., to face Navy at 10:00 a.m. Sunday.
