
Celia Ruiz Earns At-Large Bid to 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Junior Celia Ruiz earned another first for women's tennis at ECU last week when she became the first player in program history to earn an At-Large bid to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. The event is scheduled for Nov. 1-5, at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, Calif., and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.

"This semester we have seen Celia set new standards for our program," head coach Tom Morris said. "She earned the best national ranking in our history, was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Month in September, earned a regional seed in singles and doubles at the Carolina ITA regional, earned wins in both singles and doubles after qualifying for the ITA All-American Championship, qualified for the ITA Masters and now she has earned an invitation to the the ITA Fall Championships."

To be considered for an at-large selection in singles, a player must have reached the quarterfinals of the Oracle ITA Masters, the Round of 16 of the All-American Championships or the quarterfinals of an ITA Regional Championship Presented by Oracle. At-large singles selections will be based on each players' ITA/UTR Rankings Average. This average is a combination of a players' ITA preseason national ranking, Universal Tennis Rating and ITA mid-season unpublished ranking.
Singles will feature a field of 64 players made up of one Oracle ITA Masters Champion, one Milwaukee Tennis Classic Champion, eight ITA All-American Quarterfinalists, two ITA All-American Consolation Finalists, 24 ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle Finalists, four ITA Oracle Cup Divisional Champions consisting of NCAA Division II, III NAIA and JUCO, one Oracle Wild Card, two ITA Wild Cards and 21 At-Large Selections.
"I would like to thank our administration for their support and quick turn around on all of the travel arrangements and paper work which made this event possible for Celia," added Morris.
Seeding for the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships will be based on the UTR weekly average as of Monday, October 30.
