Gameday: ECU Set To Face Cleveland State
November 19, 2017 | Men's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Two teams with identical 1-2 records with their lone victory over the same opponent will do battle Monday inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum as ECU host Cleveland State in the third game of the Showcase On The Banks tournament for both teams.
The Pirates are coming off a 79-68 loss to Central Connecticut State Friday, while the Vikings are coming off their first win of the season posting an 80-56 win over Coppin State. This will be the first meeting between the two.
Following a season-opening win over Coppin State, ECU has lost its last two games.
"I wish I could explain it," ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo said. "Offensively we are a work in progress, we aren't where we need to be. We don't shoot it very well and we have young big guys which is a recipe for offensive struggles."
Junior Kentrell Barkley has scored double figures in each of the first three games, including a game-high 19 points against Central Connecticut. Senior B.J Tyson also netted 19 Friday night against the Blue Devils.
In addition to the game against CCSU, Tyson also dropped double figures against Radford. Redshirt freshman Shawn Williams is the only other player on the team to score double figures in the multiple games.
The Pirates are averaging 70.0 points per game and shooting 42.5 percent from the floor.
CSU senior Kenny Carpenter is averaging 16.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Freshman Stefan Kenic is also averaging double figures with 11.3 points as a part of the Vikings' 58.3 points per game. They are shooting 41.8 percent from the field and 24.7 percent outside the arc.
