Fleming, Tyson Lead ECU Rally Past Cleveland State

RESULT
ECU ended the game on a 12-2 run and held Cleveland State scoreless for the final 1:50 and rallied from seven points down in the final two minutes to post a 72-69 victory inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum Monday night.

TURNING POINT
Following three made free throws by Isaac Fleming, B.J. Tyson forced a Vikings' turnover and then buried a 3-pointer to bring ECU within one, 69-68, with 56 seconds remaining. The Pirates then forced another turnover and Fleming worked his way into the lane and converted an old fashion 3-point play to put ECU ahead 71-69 with 29 seconds left. After a missed jumper by Bobby Word, CSU fouled Shawn Williams then he made 1-of-2 free throws with five seconds left. The Vikings' game-tying shot hit off the back iron.

Tyson had 25 points, five rebounds and five assists. He shot 9-of-15 from the field, connecting of 4-of-7 in the first half and 5-of-8 after halftime. It was the first time he scored 20 points in a game since scoring 22 at Tulane (Feb. 24, 2016) as a sophomore, finishing one point off his career-high. He knocked down four 3s for the second straight game as well as led the team in scoring for the third consecutive contest. Tyson moved into sixth-place on The American career scoring list, passing former Memphis forward Shaq Goodwin with 1,190 career points.

Freshman Tyree Appleby came off the bench to score 15 on 5-of-10 shooting and 4-of-6 at the free throw line. He also dished out a team-high four assists in 22 minutes of action. He made two free throws with 1:50 to play and gave the Vikings at 69-62 advantage.
