GREENVILLE, N.C. --- ECU opens a six-game home stand Sunday afternoon inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum as North Carolina A&T visits for the third consecutive season. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
This will be sixth all-time meeting between the Pirates and Aggies in a series that dates back to 2003. ECU is 5-0 versus N.C. A&T with every game in the series played in Greenville.
The Pirates are coming off a 61-47 loss at Rutgers Friday in their first-ever visit to The RAC. Senior Jabari Craig and junior Isaac Fleming each had 14 points and freshman Dimitri Spasojevic grabbed 13 rebounds in the loss.
ECU held the Scarlet Knights 15 points below their season scoring average, but committed 19 turnovers which led directly to 19 points for Rutgers. Â The Pirates scored the game's first six points, but trailed by 11 at halftime and were down by 24 midway through the second half.
"I thought Jabari Craig was the best I've seen him play," ECU Head Coach Jeff Lebo said. "Hopefully that gives him some more confidence going forward. I thought he was terrific early scoring and catching the ball, keeping it simple, rebounding the ball.
"We have a lot of areas where we're deficient in, especially on the offensive side of the ball. We have to make simple basketball plays, and we can't make the easy mistakes at this pace."
Senior B.J. Tyson and junior Kentrell Barkley, who rank one and two on the team in scoring, were limited to a combined eight points Friday with Barkley held scoreless for the first time since the regular season finale of his freshman campaign.
In two career games against North Carolina A&T, Tyson averaged 17.0 points and Barkley has averaged 9.5 points.
"They are the guys that need to be good every night," Lebo stated.
The Pirates, who enter Sunday's game averaging 65.8 points per game, will face one of the nation's highest scoring teams in North Carolina A&T which averages nearly 93 points per game. The Aggies have scored over 100 points twice and over 90 four times.
Junior forward Femi Olujobi leads the NCAA in scoring with 29.4 points per game. He has posted three double-doubles through five games which included a 37-point, 18-rebound performance at Jacksonville eight days ago.
As a team the Aggies are shooting over 50 percent from the field with a scoring margin of plus-13.2 points per game.
